The potential Duchess Paradise Project is located in the Canning Basin – an isolated inland area 175km by road south east of Derby. The closest settlements to the project area are the properties at the nearby pastoral station homestead, the small town of Camballin and the small Aboriginal communities of Jarlmadangah and Looma, about 60km away by road.
Rey Resources is developing a project in a region of diverse interests and is committed to working with the Traditional Owners, local and Indigenous communities and State Government to ensure responsible management of the environment, balanced with development of the natural resource and providing real economic benefits to the community.
Rey Resources aims to establish itself as a responsible mine developer and operator initially through the potential Duchess Paradise Project. This includes demonstrating good community relationships, high governance standards, excellent safety and environmental management performance.
In building a strong community relationship model, Rey Resources has been actively engaging with stakeholders and groups at local community, regional, state and industry levels.
Rey Resources, through its community consultation and investment activities, will continue to work with its potential project stakeholders to avoid and or manage any possible impacts.
Already active in the community, our activities and support to date have included:
Local
Shire of Derby / West Kimberley
Rey Resources has operated a regional office in Derby since 2006 and in 2010 the company was one of the largest ratepayers to the Shire of Derby / West Kimberley. The company holds regular meetings and briefings with the Shire in relation to project status and design. The Shire is the key provider of community services and local infrastructure in the region.
Derby Chamber of Commerce
Derby has an active Chamber of Commerce promoting economic development and business opportunities in the community. Each year the Chamber presents a yearly economic forum to encourage networking and information sharing. In 2010, Rey Resources participated as a key presenter at the forum.
Derby High School
Rey Resources is a strong supporter of the Derby High School and its Clontarf Academy Program. The Clontarf Foundation uses Australian Rules football as a vehicle for improving life outcomes for young Aboriginal men. Clontarf has established academies in regional high schools to attract and retain young Aboriginal men to obtain an education.
Community Donations
Rey Resources has a strong track record of community support, making investments over the past four years in local events, initiatives and services. Past recipients have included the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Derby regional hospital, the local radio station (6DBY) and bushfire brigade.
Rey Resources Derby Office
With its commitment to the region, Rey Resources has maintained a Director and office in Derby since 2006. Over time, it is anticipated Rey Resources’ presence in the region will increase, helping support local employment and training opportunities, local content, and business development. The company’s increased presence in the area will also enhance ongoing community consultation and participation.
Regional
North West Expo
The North West Expo showcases business, education and industry operating in the North West region of Australia. Rey Resources has participated in the Expo since 2007 to engage with the community about its project, exchange information with community members and facilitate discussion with stakeholders. As a Bronze sponsor of the event three years running since 2007 and again in 2011, Rey Resources is proud to make these investments in the economic future of the region.
Industry Engagement
Rey Resources is an active participant in a number of industry bodies and associations including the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia, the Australia China Business Council and the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies.
